History of Jacobsbaai
From the early 1800's, a company called Stefan Bros, were conducting trade between the West Coast and
Cape Town. Very often farmers became indebted to them and they would take 99 year leases on some
farm next to the coast as payment. This meant that they could refuse landing rights to any other
traders that wanted to trade on these shores.
Nic Tredoux (more about Nic) owned the land from around 1984 to 1998. It was his vision that lead to the town as it is today - he did the
initial development with his own private funding and only when his health no longer allowed him to continue did Kuron Holdings enter
into the picture. He also facilitated the building regulations which today guarantees the town's unique look and atmosphere. At times he
had to fight in court to ensure free access tot the beachfront for both visitors and homeowners.
Nic Tredoux was also a writer and poets of many poems and works of fiction, among others "Die Waterhond" with the West Coast as backdrop.
Before he retired Nic was one of the country's foremost advertising men and was well respected in the industry. He went into partnership with
Kuron Holdings and they then continued the development of Jacobsbaai.
During the Second World War watch towers were build all along the coast to keep guard for possible invasion
by German U-boats. Despite this, a well known spy, Robbie Leibrandt, was dropped off by a U-boat near Yzerfontein.
On the photo you can see on of two towers that can be visited at Jacobsbaai.

So kon hulle dan
Duitse spioen, Robbie Leibrandt, by Yzerfontein aan wal gekom. Op die foto is een van twee
wagtorings wat by Jacobsbaai gebou is.
